GenWeb

How it works

Four steps to a live website, and you can stop after any of them — nothing is charged until step four. The fifth is what happens after: Grow.

A tablet on a shop counter, open on the shop's own product list.
  1. 1

    You describe the business

Genni asks on the front page — what it's called, what you do, where you are — one question at a time. Answer the way you'd say it to a customer standing in front of you: "home bakery in Chennai, birthday cakes and brownies, orders two days ahead" is plenty. She carries on asking inside, in English, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam or Hindi.

  2. 2

She builds it while you watch

Genni works out what a business like yours needs on a page, picks a look, writes the words and puts it together. The preview fills in beside the conversation as she goes, so you're not waiting at a spinner wondering what you'll get.

Where she doesn't know something — your phone number, your exact address, your opening hours — she leaves a gap and asks, rather than inventing something plausible. A website with a made-up number on it is worse than no website.

  3. 3

    You change it by asking

"Make the header warmer." "Put the phone number at the top." "Add samosas at ₹15." You type it, she does it. There's no editor to learn, nothing to drag, and no waiting for someone to get back to you. Your plan includes credits for this — 500 a year, or 50 a month — and beyond those a change is ₹15.

If you'd rather not do this part yourself, ask for a call back and one of our developers will set it up for you. That's free.

  4. 4

    You publish it

This is the first time money comes into it. ₹500 a year puts one page live on a genweb.in address; ₹3,000 a year puts up to eight pages on a domain of your own, with the domain at our lowest price when you register it and each time you renew it while the plan is active. Hosting, certificates and the enquiry inbox are part of both, not extras. There's a monthly option at ₹300 if you'd rather spread it.

After that, every enquiry someone sends through the site lands in one list and in your email. The full price list is here.

Selling online as well? The online store add-on puts products, a cart and a checkout on the same site. It's billed with your plan: ₹3,000 a year, or ₹250 a month on the monthly plan. You can set the whole shop up during step three and pay for it when you publish. What the store does.

  5. 5

    Grow takes it from there

The day the site is live, Grow starts counting who visits and where they came from — Google, Instagram, WhatsApp, an ad — and which of them sent an enquiry or ordered. We register the site with Google Search for you and suggest what to fix. That part is free on every live site.

Ask Genni for a post and she writes it in your language, from what the site already knows; a month of posts around the festivals where you are, a poster from your own photo, or the text for an ad. The Grow add-on, at ₹299 a month or ₹2,999 a year, adds 300 Grow credits a month and a report every Monday. Everything Grow does.

Start at step one

It takes about a minute and costs nothing.
